Goth Girls?

My husband saw the two newest You and Me Dolls and said "Oh, the Goth Girls". I said that's catchy but that isn't the reason they have mostly black clothing.

Their names are Amy and Amaryllis
This is You and Me Doll, Amy

This is You and Me Doll Amaryllis

The story is that these two You and Me dolls love to watch Project Runway on thursday nights. Amy and Amaryllis are always talking over the judges saying things like "the pants don't fit right" or "she looks ten feet tall in that". Amy wanted to be like Michael Kors and wear all black, than Amaryllis chimed in "me too". So I gave in, but told them I would add some color also to lighten things up.

If you see Amaryllis in my Etsy shop there is something you should know about her, she has a birth defect. Below the "booty" on the back, her You and Me Dolls tag got caught in her leg seam. She is a little embarrassed about this but I told her no one would love her any less.

Are Dolls all Fluff?

Those of you that know me, know me as a painter and may wonder why dolls?
Are dolls just fluff or worse yet fu-fu? My answer is an emphatic no!
Children that are involved with imaginative, creative play are more likely to solve our societies' dilemmas as adults.
Little Suzie next door will one day run the world's finances

and

Little Tommy down the street will one day be your Doctor

Just look at this from  "The Power of Magical Thinking" by Shirley S. Wang:

child-development experts are recognizing the importance of imagination and the role it plays in understanding reality. Imagination is necessary for learning about people and events we don't directly experience, such as history or events on the other side of the world.

Or this from "The Importance of Imagination",
Children that are able to get away from it all and place themselves, mentally, in another world are more likely to be able to think "outside the box" and produce more creative results when learning and working. For this reason, the importance of imagination cannot be underestimated and should be encouraged when raising children.Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/1006190
Simple toys and dolls are the perfect vehicle to free the imagination! The creative kids of today are the decision makers of tomorrow.
What do you think about this subject? Let me know-

Allie Rocks

September is definitely the best month of the year in Las Vegas. The plants are loving the break from the scorching heat of summer. Allie and I were outside this morning enjoying the yard.
You and Me Doll Allie, trying to grab a flower, (she almost did a face plant into that bush)

She was really stoked when she found this rock for her collection-
and resting in the shade...

Another great day in Las Vegas

Chip and Biff

I've heard several times "why don't you make a boy doll?" So thought it would be a fun idea. Here is Chip and Biff, they are twins (not identical) because they came out of the sewing machine on the same day. The guys have "denim pants" and "t-shirts"with a pocket.
You and Me Doll, Chip
Chip likes the outdoors, he'd like to go camping some day.

You and Me Doll, Biff
Biff loves to go to the park on Saturdays and skateboard.

I came home from work yesterday and found them having a pillow fight. It started when Chip tried to grab the $20 bill out of Biff's pocket  (I put it there to show Etsy people they could be a gift holder). Anyway I can see I'm going to have to watch them-

Great Grandma Scooba Doo

You and Me Doll asking a question

The other day one of the dolls was asking where she got these long, long legs and I told her from her Great Grandma Scooba Doo. She said "who's that?".  I told her well, she wasn't actually your great grandma but she was an inspiration, a doll my parents gave me when I was 7 years old.

She was a cool doll for her time, the 1960's, the first Beatnik Doll.you pulled her string she said some pretty crazy stuff, like "hey dig this" and "don't be a square" - just watch this youtube video. So that's where the long legs came from-

Store moves to new location-

Hi, the dolls and I have decided while we enjoy writing the blog, the store part is taking too much time away from having fun - so we've decided to move the store over to the fine folks at Etsy, they are good at handling that stuff. If you haven't been there check it out. Hand made items of every kind imaginable.

More You & Me Dolls

Here are pictures and some words about three more You & Me Dolls-

This is Adrianna, she has a favorite indian print blanket that I always catch her taking out of the closet. She loves to wrap up in it and watch old westerns of TV

This is Ajay, her favorite past time is rolling down the hill in the backyard.
She says it makes her dizzy but it's worth it.

This is You & Me Doll Amelia. She likes to watch herself doing Irish Step Dancing in the mirror.
(She's not very good at it, but she looks really cute).

Here's The Dolls

I am really glad the pictures are done. In the beginning the poly-fil was flying as the girls all wanted to be first. By the end of the photo shoot the dolls where laughing and acting silly.
After the photo shoot

This is Allie. She is a blonde, doesn't pay a lot of attention to what she's doing, but she loves to collect rocks.

This is Abbey. One time she was almost attacked in the backyard by a lion so she is scared of cats. Maybe you could help her get over her fears. She likes to go on picnics.

This is Addie, she was the first You & Me Doll to have knee socks, she is very proud of that.
more dolls to come...

What's a You and Me Doll?

You & Me Doll
I wanted to create something fun, huggable and comforting for kids.
The design;
* It had to be sturdy yet soft. This doll is made to be napped with, held while you watch TV, sit on your lap at the airport- just what you'd expect a buddy to be. 80% sewn on the machine, the rest is by hand, no made in China here.

* A simple face so that you can make it your own.

* I wanted the dolls to reflect their rag doll ancestors, so the arms, legs and face are cotton muslin. They also needed to embrace the present, so I gave them bright colored prints and extra long legs for attitude!

Just add . . . imagination
Next I'll introduce the dolls.
